  1. The townland of Ballycohey is situated about three miles from Tipperary town. There live in this place from fifteen to twenty small farmers each holding from fifteen to twenty acres of land. The landlord, William Scully, who was over this place once notified all the farmers that he was going to evict them. His intentions were to hand over the lot to one man, even though these farmers had their rent paid. The poor people were very upset and did not know what to do. They held a meeting and decided that on the day of the eviction they would gather into one house to make a protest against their eviction.
