  1. Bishop Butler was the last of the Butler family, who had for generations lived in Shangarry (Ballingarry). The thought of being the last of a long honoured race troubled him unceasingly, until he decided to abandon his religion. He called himself Lord Dunboyne and soon after married a Protestant lady.
    When he was dying he sought to make his peace with God, but his wife would not allow a priest to see him. A great friend of "Bishop Butler",
