small way. She had one son married in Kilpeacon Co Limerick. This woman missed a five pound note and she told the neighbours about it. This woman was called Mary Hayes and another was called Margaret Rourke. Margaret was called Peg, and Peg said to Mary one day we will go to Biddy Earlie. She may be able to give us some information about the five pound note. Mary being a religious woman said she would be afraid for fear the priest would not give her absolution but Peg said “Come with me and you need not see the woman at all”. So the pair started of next morning and arrived at Biddy’s place at 12 o clock. Mary was afraid to go within a hundred yards of Biddy’s House. So she waited for Peg. Good morning said Biddy to Peg. I know what brought you. You have a son called William Rourke and he was at your house on Saturday night. You had a five pound note in a jug in the dresser and you missed it on Sunday morning after coming from mass. Well Peg your son took that 5 pound note and I am sorry to say you will never see it again.
