- (continued from previous page)Dr Hely and Father O'Rourke were both of the Franciscan Order. The were hanged at Kilmallock at the back of the church in a field still called Párc an Chrochta. Their bodies remained suspended for fourteen days to be used as targets by the soldiers.

“Many local people visit a well in the Croker Estate called Tobar Nooraun.”
They pay the visits usually on Saturday and the water of the well is supposed to cure sore eyes. The late Mr and Mrs Croker, althogh they never prevented persons from visiting the well, did not believe in the power of water and rediculed the idea of paying rounds. The Croker's had a horse that was affected with sore eyes and one day the groom who was a Protestant saw some persons going to pay rounds to the well took the horse with him and washed the horse's eye in the well. He did this to redicule those who were paying the rounds.
Next morning the well had removed to another field and when Mrs and Mrs Croker heard the full facts of what had occured they became somewhat perturbed.(continues on next page)
