called "Wild Sage", and it is sometimes boiled down to a liquid substance and if a person drank three bottles of this the third is supposed to have the power to cure that person from any kind of pains. This same weed is sometimes used to heal a wound of any sort.
There is another little flower which is known as "Bird's Eyes" or "Mammy die" because they say that if it is brought into a house the mother of the house die. This is sometimes used to banish freckles from the face.
Some people would not allow anyone to string a spray of white-thorn-blossoms into a house because it is said to bring ill in its wake. Long ago the people would not burn an alder stick because they say that the person who burns it gets a bad headache.
They say that if a young child or a young animal is struck with an alder stick its growth is stopped for ever.
