    On Shrove Tuesday pancakes are made. The reason this is done is -: In the olden days of the church there was a fast which was called "The black fast. People were not allowed to drink milk or eat eggs. So on Shrove Tuesday they make pancakes in which they use eggs and milk. Then they bring up for the "Black fast" by eating a lot of eggs and milk.
    Snap apple.
    On November night it is a custom to play snap apple. A tub of water is got, and then an apple is put into it. Next a person is picked out and his hands are tied behind his back. The person is then supposed to catch the apple in his mouth. In doing so he often gets very wet to the enjoyment of the onlookers.
    Sometimes an apple and a piece of soap are hung from the ceiling. Then a person is blindfolded and his hands are tied behind his back. He must then try to catch the apple with his mouth, and sometimes he catches the soap, to the enjoyment of all those present.
