Near Carraigcleena was a forge near which grew a crab tree. The smith and Clíodhna were very friendly. One day Clíodhna said to him "You see that tree. Tomorrow will be the day of my trial & if I fail its leaves will wither."
The day of the trial came and the girl and Clíodhna were tried. Clíodhna was defeated; the rock opened, and the bay came out. The leaves on the tree withered. For a reward the girl asked to be taken home safely to her mother.
