- There are many sorts of wild birds. Those seen around here are the Crane, Pigeons, Starlings, Swallows, Corncrakes, Cuckoo, Crows, Jack-Daws, and Magpies. Those are the largest of the bird family and are not eaten.
The largest of the bird family and the most beautiful is the Swan, which is also rather rare. Of our small birds the Blackbird, Thrush, Robin, wren, Lark, Yellow Hammer, and Finch are commonest. Almost all the small birds I have named are song birds, and sing sweetly.
Of the large birds the Swallow, Corn Crake, Starling and Cuckoo come with Summer and go with the approach of cold weather. The Cuckoo is said to take over another bird's nest and lays only one or two eggs. The Cuckoo(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
