four fairs held in Ballygurteen annually. The first fair used be held on 14th June, the second on 25th July, the third on 1st November and the fourth on 23rd December. Buyers used come from Cork, Kerry, Dublin and Limerick to these fairs. On the night before the fair people from far away used come with their cattle and put them into some field and sometimes the men used sleep by the fence. This fair was abandoned as the nearest railway station was six miles off.
