  1. There is a common superstition especially among elderly people about churning - namely that if anyone enters while the churning is going on, and either places a lighted coal in his pipe or takes out one without giving a hand at the work brings the butter with him.
    The following is a tale I heard my mother recount which she heard in her childhood.
    Her mother owned three cows famous for the amount of butter which their milk produced. Twice or three times a week she had to churn and sold the butter in the
