  1. There is an old mill in Barkmills which was occupied by a man named Bailey during the famine.
    This man had three boilers boiling Indian Meal for the people. The people came from the back of Brusha mountain for the meal. They carried it in buckets.
    A man whose name my father does not remember went for the meal one day and had none to get. He lay down by the Barkmill pond, and said that he might as well die there, as go home find four more dead at the fire.
