  1. There was a man one time who had a sick cow not able to stand. He was (country) coming home from town one night and on his way he had to pass a fairy fort. As he was passing he saw one of the fairies and thinking it was an ordinary man he asked what shall I give to a sick cow so that she hall be cured. Then, said the fairy, go home, tie a straw to the crook and your cow is as well as ever. The man did as he was told, he went home, tied a straw to the crook and went out to the byre. When he reached the byre the cow was standing and the man was very much surprised. He also told all his
