  1. There are a good many forts in our district. The principal one is Delaney's situated on the borders of Ballycallan parish near our house.
It is a large circular one, with a deep trench around it. On a clear day it is possible to see seven counties from its top as it is in a very elevated position. There is a tradition that Finn Mac Cool slept in it in company with his good dog, Bran, on one of his hunting days. The shape of his bed can be seen to this day, also his dog's bed, both are hollowed out of the ground.
