  1. Long ago people made candles for there own use. Lard, as it was taken from the pig, was melted over the fire in a big pot. Then a long cylindrical shape was let rest along the top of the pot. The wicks are tied out of the shape by means of twine and let hang down in to the lard. After about ten minutes in the lard the shape is taken up and let cool. When the lard is cool the candle can be lit.
