Sometime about the Sixth century a holy man named Nemg or Neápig founded a church on the banks of the river Lingaun, or as it was known in those times as the Fairypool, hence the name Killonery, or in our native language Cill Ó Neappig or church of Nemg. This is no legend but true history as today, after fourteen centuries the remains of this building remain.
