    Famine Times.
    There are very few people alive today who remember the Famine of 1846-47.
    There was a land agent named Williamson in this part of the country.Every day he lit a fire on a hill and on the fire he made a large pot of gruel made from Indian meal.A large crowd gathered there,each with a tin and spoon and the land agent supplied the milk.The porridge instead of keeping them alive only killed the people.
    The people took fevers and they died on the roads.This hill was known as the "Potter's Hill".
    In 1846,a blackness appeared
