In former times people used get remedies for their ailments from herb doctors. These were not qualified doctors but they had good cures:-
The people used put a plantain leaf on a cut to prevent septic poison.
To cure a stye the eye had to be pricked three times with nine gooseberry thorns.
To cure whooping cough a husband and wife whose names were the same before marriage had to make tea in a bottle and sprinkle it with holy water. The sick person had to drink it three times a day till it was finished.
