    A well thatched roof might last ten years while a badly thatched one might only last two years. The best thatching men in this district are:- Willie Finaly, Killatton, "Puckony" Smith, Sheskin, and "Broclom" Murphy, Derryarritt.

  2. Long ago the people peeled rushes and steeped them in lard for a week. After a week they were brought to the candle-maker who had a number of oak sticks into which the rushes were put. A long bog "cat" was used as a wick.
    The man who made them in this district was Peter Mc Elwain.
