- Animals and Out-HousesIn the country many animals are kept by the farmers which include cattle, horses, pigs and others. There is a number of out-houses in every farm-yard to house those animals.The place in which cattle are kept is called a cow-house and it is equipped with all the necessary details for milking etc. There is a rack on the wall from which the cows eat their hay. There is also a stake fixed in the ground to which a chain is attached for tying the animal at night. A rope is used for tying a maoil-cow [?] or a savage one.If a cow is in the habit of theiving a rope is tied to his horns and feet so the poor animal cannot walk. This is a cruel means of stopping him and an end should be put to it. Cows are called by many names such as:- smeirin for a back cow,
Buideog [?], a yellow one, Cricin, a speckled one, sceadog, a yellow one with a white spot on her forehead, riabog, a grey one, druimfionn [?] a black one with a white spotted back, cubac one with twisted horns.(continues on next page)
