    wide, this was made of straw blades well plaited together, the plait which was going across in the was about an inch down from the top of the plait in the length. Then she put a ring round the whole cross of longer plaited blades. After that she closed up the spaces from the cross to the ring, so that when the whole lot was finished it was of an oval shape, but the cross was visible in it.
    On May day morning in times gone by, the women who were going to the one spring well always strived to see who would be at the well first, and she who reached it first brought away with her in the tin-can of water the good luck for the year. Primroses were always spread on the cows’ backs and around the door steps to bring luck. A whin branch or a bunch of heather was hung over doors and windows on May day also for luck.
    On Christmas Day the Churches are always decorated with holly and also the dwelling houses of the people
