  1. Its of a councillor I write
Who had a handsome comely daughter
She was a charming beauty - bright -
And you shall hear what followed after:
He uncle left her, I declare,
A sum which was of large possession
And left it in her Father's care
To use it at his own discretion.
Court she was by many a peer
But none of them could gain the lady
'Til at length a farmer's son
In private came to her a wooing
When he had her favour won
She says: "My jewel I fear you'll ruin
"You are the jewel of my heart
"I do confess I dearly love you
"Of Lords and Peers I don't deny
"There's none on earth I style above you.
