- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)to go to the nearest town to make purchases. Purchase was often made after Mass but no so much at present.
Tobacco and often tea and sugar were purchased after Mass.
On several occassions goods were bartered and given in exchanged for work when the people had not the money. Often the people paid what was due for goods and got more on tick. When they pay down for goods it was called "Boot".
May Day and New Year's Day were considered unlucky for purchasing because it was said that the person would be always given out money during the year. The markets that were held nearest to my district were held in Collooney Riverstown and Ballymote. Markets are only held in Ballymote now.
