  1. "Local Roads"
The local roads in Sligo start from the market cross and they are also measured from this place.
These roads are very old but they are now improved by the Corporation.
Most of these old roads are still used but there is one which stretches from Common house along the coast to Strandhill.
There is a road stretching from Sligo to the back of Kkocknarea. This road was made during the famine period so as to give work to the distressed people.
The by-ways and old paths in sligo are used by tinkers and gipsies because they are out of the way of the traffic.
There is a memorial at the cross-roads on the Albert Line dedicated to the men who died in the Great War.
In the country, dances are held at the cross-roads.
In the olden days, witches used to be burned to death at the cross-roads and any person who committed suicide was buried there with a stake driven through him.
