  1. There are not very many monuments in this district. I only know about three of them.
    One is erected opposite the Post Office in Sligo, to the late Mr. P. A. Mc Hugh, Member of Parliament for South Sligo, about the year 1908.
    There is another monument erected at the end of Market St. which is called the "Erin Monument" but I do not know when or for what reason it was erected there.
    There is another monument erected in memory of an Irish officer, named Bartholomew Teeling, who, during the battle of Carrick-na-gat, in or around the year 1798, rode in front of the army and shot dead the English gunner who was causing much damage to the Irish army with his gun.
