  1. The local landlord was of the name of Cooper, in latter years Frenches, and Middleton. It is not known how long his people were landlords. In later years they were looked upon as good. Evictions and plantings have been carried out, a great of families of Gillans, were evicted, and their land taken from them and giving to people who came to live in the Rosses. Most of these people [Gillans] emigrated. The landlord came into possecion of the land by taking it by force off the Gillans and Killerlans. The lands was divided into farms by their guidance. If anyone began building a house, he would not let them build it, or make any other improvements. Tithes were collected in olden times in Rosses Point for the landlord.
