    there for a couple of hours in the biting cold. At last they began to fall of one by one until there was only three left:- Gillan, Bruen, Gaffney. Gillan was a powerful swimmer and he was only twenty years old (The rest of the men were drowned by then). At last he fell off. The ship was about one and a hlaf miles from the shore. He swam for the shore. He was 3 yards from it when he collapsed and drowned. The other men Bruen and Gaffney were saved by a lifeline.
