  1. In olden times Billy Burbage (grandfather of the present Eddie Burbage) lived in Sandy Hill, One night he dreamt he came across a pot of gold on his land and that it was guarded by eels ; and that he had to get help from Roscommon before he could get it. Shortly after he had this dream he went over to Roscommon to where some of his friends lived and he told them the story. They agreed that two of them would go over to Sandy Hill and help him to get it as they had a suspicion that it might come true.
One night they went to the spot that he had dreamt about at about twelve o'clock. They started to dig and before long the came on a flat stone and they saw that it was covering the pot of gold. Just then a very large eel appeared followed by a number of small ones. The big eel put his tail in his mouth and began to squeal. Then the men became afraid and did not touch the gold. One the following day Billie Burbage closed up the hole and it was never touched since.
It is said that two lives will be lost in the lifting of that gold.
