    III

Hail! didst thou toil the journey bright
In vain, or didst thy people heed?
And follow where thy battle call
    Proclaimeth freedom or to fall.

    IV
March on! methinks I hear thee still
    Repeat the anthem and again
Thy hordes are steering up the hill
In steady order from the plain
    V
Yet in the midst of thy heart is seen
To break for all that might have been
Thy heart is seen to bleed and thou
Upon the heights of death doth soar
    VI
And like thy sires thy body now
    Doth tenant earth for evermore
While on thy country's every crag
Floats high the likeness of thy flag
