    Old Schools
    There was a hedge-school in Tynagh where the Shaughnessys are living at present. There was another in Gurrrane in Gohery's field.
    The teacher of Gurrane hedge-school was Mr. Caulfield. When Tynagh National School was built in 1845 Mr. Caulfield was appointed teacher under the Board of Education.
    The teachers who taught in the hedge-schools were called hedge-teachers. They were strangers. They travelled from place to place and remained about three months in each place. They were supported in the pupils' houses staying
