  1. There were two forts in our district but are not to be seen now. They were called "forts" and "fairy rings," and are within view of each other. They were circular in shape. There was a fence of sods and earth around the one on Anthony Arnolds farm in Kiltyfergal and a stone fence round the one on James Arnold's farm in Kiltyfengal. There was no place to get in, you just climbed over the fence.
    A farmer named James Arnold once carted away the stones round the stone fort. The old people say there was a great noise of falling stones that night at the fort and the fairies were seen going up the road in cars (?) crying and weeping. James Arnold
