- There are a lot of birds in our district but the most common are: The swallow and cuckoo which are migratory birds. The ones which do not migrate are:- Corncrake, robin, wren, wallie wagtail, starlings, chaffinches, snipe, goldfinches, sparrows, crows, seagulls, cormorels, herons, blind bats, magpies, thrushes, blackbirds, pea-weet, pigeons.
The swallow, comes about the middle of April. It is generally about 6 inches in length. They are blue all over except the breast which is snow-white. They build their nests under the eaves of houses. The nest is composed of mud lined with hay and feathers. The eggs are four in number and one of a white colour with brown spots. The young birds are fed with flies and insects caught by the parent bird(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
