    The following story is also told to show the power of the priest.

    The following story is also told to show the power of the priests.
    One of the priests of a certain parish, the curate, was once walking by a gentleman's residence. One of the gentlemen of the place was standing supervising the work done by the men. When the priest was passing the men who were Catholic raised their caps but when he had passed the gentleman deferred to turned his head in the direction of the priest and sneered at him. Then he tried to turn his head back but could not and the sneer stayed on his face.
    He went to several doctos but none of them would cure him. He went to the parish priest and told his story and asked him to pray and intercede with the curate for him. The parish priest told him [?] himself had no power to speak to the curate and ask him to cure the man. He did so and shortly afterwards the man was cured.
