“On the Tallow Youghal road at the place called Redforge a man named John Connors one lived.”
On the Tallow Youghal road in the place called Redforge a man named John Connors once lived. He kept a cow. His brother Patrick lived a couple of miles nearer Youghal in Templemichael. He kept a jennet and car. When winter came and John had no mangolds for his cow. So he asked Patrick to go to a certain place for a load of mangolds. He went and as the animal was slow he was very late in returning. It was about midnight.
When he was about a mile from his destination, and about two or three hundred yards at the Youghal side of the milestone (III miles from Youghal) he saw a man in front of him. He was dressed in a black suit, white vest, soft hat and swallow tail coat. He at first thought that it was a man who was there to waylay him. He dismounted from the car and filled his pocket with stones. When he came to the spot where the man was he could not see trace or tidings of him. Then he got nervous and he drove as quickly as he could(continues on next page)
