    A man named ODonnell of Rossport, met the French at the Windy Gap with 1,000 Pikemen. Fr. Conroy also joined them. Fr. Gawley of the Down also joined them. He died of the cold at a stack of turf.
    Fr. OGrady, granduncle of OGrady's of Ballygowen was opposed to them. He si buried in Kilfian graveyard.
    French from Castlebar went to Newport. Fr Manus Sweeney was seen talking to a French Colonel and Sir Niall ODonnell was coming across bridge. The Colonel asked who was the man coming across. When told he was Mayor of the town. He wanted to kill him. The priest would not allow it and said he was his second cousin.
    When the French were gone Sir Niall sent his yeomen to arrest the priest. He escaped to Erris and Bingham's yeomen arrested him. Bingham freed him. He was hidden in house in Ballycroy. Captain Wilberham
