  1. There was a forge long ago where our school now stands in Ratheskin. There lived a man in part of that forge named McGabe and he was captain of the steel boys in this district. One night a man named Maloney who lived where our stable now stands went to the forge on business. He and McGabe had a talk abour the rising in Ireland and Maloney said something wrong about the steel boys and McGabe dropped the subject. That night the steel boys came to Maloney's house and dragged him our of bed in the presence of his wife and burned his legs with hot irons and carded his back with cards something like the cards that women use for carding wool and they then departed.
