  1. i. Some years ago there was a woman in Carrowstalaun named Fitzgerald. One day she went out tying oats. She brought her child about two years old with her. She wrapped the ina shawl and left him by a stook of oats. After a while when she had finished her work she went to take the child home, but found instead of her own a small sickly child. She brought the child home and after a few weeks it died. It is said that the fairies took her own child and left that one instead of it.
    ii. In Keelmore there lives a man named John Moran. He is getting old now. It is said that if you go into Ballygown Wood after twelve o'clock that you will not
