    Hidden Treasure
I have often heard of a treasure which is supposed to have been hidden in a ‘Nutrock’ mean my home at Toomore, Hillstreet, Drumsna, County Roscommon. It was placed there by the Danes. Very many people have tried to unearth it but all to no use. The treasure is said to consist of a pot of gold which a weasel is supposed to be taking care of. People say that if one dreams of where its hidden goes with a hazel nut and kills the weasel, the gold will be discovered. I have heard of a man who once dreamt of two nights in succession that this pot of gold was hidden under a flag near a wall. Had he dreamt of it the third night he could go and have a search for it, but he told his dream the second night and dreamt of it no more. The treasure is still hidden in the rock but no one knows the exact spot. There is a tradition that whoever discovers the pot of gold shall lose one eye. None of the people living at the present time in this district have ever dreamt of this hidden treasure although they have often heard of where it is supposed to be concealed. Years and years lights were seen around the spot.
Another story is told of a search for a pot of gold supposed to be hidden at Rockville, Hillstreet, Drumsna, County Roscommon.

There are many stories told about treasure which was hidden in ancient Ireland by the olden people. These treasures were chiefly hidden in lonely valley and islands where people used not travel. It is supposed that they are protected by animals and such things.
I have heard from my father "Denis McCarthy" about some treasure which has been hidden in my district. It is said to have been put there by a little man who got it from a rich gentleman. This gentleman it seems was in dread that his treasure would be stolen from him, so he got the little man to take care of it. The latter had a son who knew nothing about the treasure or where it was. The little man was to bring the gold with him if he lived and if he died he should tell his son where it was. It happened that he was dying and he told the son as follows: -
'There was a large flag standing the height of a man facing south-east, between three fresh water lakes. He would find this stone where the first rays of morning sun would shine, on the longest day of the year. It would not remain shining on it but for three minutes, and it is under the end of the shadow of this flag the gold is hidden.' The boy never found the gold so he told the secret to everybody in the end.
There is also another treasure hidden in Lough Ine

There is said to be treasure hidden by the Danes in a burrow near Lacken, Co. Limerick. There is also treasure hidden between Culahill Castle and Drombane Upperchurch parish and in Knockmehil and Glenbeg and Carhue Upperchurch. It was hidden by the Danes.
A man named Philip Phelan dug down in the Lacken burrough until he came to the treasure and the spade went in dust in his hands. The following morning his hand was covered with black spots, and one of his legs became paralised, and he has remained that way for the past thirty years.
The treasure hidden by the Danes was gold. Philip Phelan's discovery was a crock
