- People made cakes from oatmeal long ago which they called "Tom Steels". They ground grain long ago. They used a hand mill to do so. It is not used now.
They also made potato cakes and "boxty". Potato cake and "boxty" are also made now but to a lesser extent. They sued a stick for mixing dough. It was made of wood and it(continues on next page)
