  1. There were six forges in my parish long ago. The roofs were thatched with straw. Some of the doors of the forges were arched and some were square. There was only one hearth in the forge and two anvils.
    The blacksmith shod horses, asses, and cows, and he made ploughs gates cartwheels and scythes.
