   Old people give accounts of the houses which were long ago in this district.
   Some of them had slated roofs but most of them had zinc.
   They had but one room in them which was used as kitchen and bedroom.
   The beds were generally placed by the back wall in the corner with hangings all around.
   Some of the houses had the fireplaces in the corner but most of them had the fireplaces at the gable end with wood in the chimneys.
   The front of the chimneys were made of stone or clay.
   The old people never heard of houses with no chimneys in them or of houses with the fire on the middle of the floor.
   There were often houses with no glass for windows for it was too dear for poor people so they used netting wire. The floors were made of clay.
   Half-doors were very common formerly and are common still.
   Wood was mostly used for fires and whoever had turf-bogs used turf. Dips and candles were used to give light.
