    the people themselves. A couple of them on which people are living were made eight or nine years ago by the County Council.
    Roads were made as a relief work during the Famine Period. The people who worked at the road-making got a penny per day and they got their supper of yellow meal.
    Some rivers were crossed by means of fords at shallow places. There is a ford across the River Inny at Empor. Tossing is carried on at crossroads. Bonfires are lit on the crossroads on certain feast-nights.
