  1. One of the strongest men in this district lived in Stonestown. His name was Connell. If a bag of wheat happened to fall off the cart he could easily throw it up on the load. He was in the habit of driving hay to Dublin and the other men at the same work were always anxious to have him with them. If a wheel broke Connell could lift up the load and put in a new wheel. He could push a large load of hay into a yard in Dublin.
    Pat Coyle Bohermeen, Navan, Co Meath was the champion runner of Ireland. He ran ten miles in fifty two minutes.
    Pat Blake Navan was the champion walker of the world.
    My great grandfather Willie Curry walked to Dublin with a man named John Rice of Athlumney. They took the Pledge from Father Matthew and walked home. My father knew an old man from Navan named Mickey Mullvanny. He was a very old man when he died and in his young days papers were not to be had like nowadays. It was the usual habit to pay a penny or twopence for the loan of a paper. Mickey had a paper stall and one day a man got a paper and forgot to give it back. Mickey walked to Drogheda after his man.
