   and was owned for the past two generations by the Matthews family. It is built on a stream at a cross roads. The walls are built with stone, lime and are white-washed on the outside which gives it a very clean appearance. There are three windows on it, one large one and two smaller ones. The door by which it is entered is divided into two half-doors. The roof is cantilever and is slated. The floor is half clay and half boards. The fire place is in the centre of the back wall. It is raised about two feet from the ground by means of bricks. A double action bellows is used for blowing the fire. The anvil is about three feet from the fireplace. Beside the anvil is a wooden stand on which the smith rests long bars when he is hammering them on the anvil. Convenient to the anvil also there is another wooden table on which the smith puts all his tools. There is also a three legged wooden stand to rest the horses hoof on when it is being shod. The tools used by the smith when working are:- a hammer, a buffer, a tongs, a pinchers, a punch or stamp and a rasp. The smith wears a leather or canvan apron when working. Wheels are shod in the open air.
