  1. On the cliff road from Kilkee to Goleen. About 5 miles from Kilkee. The castle was built on a flat rocky surface or flag. Hence its name. It was built by the McMahon family about Fifth Century.
    It was said that the people who lived in the Castle were pirates Ceann Dubh lived there one time. He married Una McMahon who owned the Castle.
    Ceann Dubh had a pirate ship and a pirate crew. They raided all merchant ships passing, especially English ships.
    He attacked an English vessel one time and had a narrow escape. It seems that an English war ship saw the pirate vessel and attacked it.
