we notice that any marriages which take place here are carried out on Wednesday.
Friday is counted a lucky day to begin any work, especially to change from one house to another, or to take up residence in a new house for the first time. We notice that people observe this changing into new houses very carefully in the district.
Saturday is looked on not only as an unlucky day to get married, but it is also said that it is a very bad day to begin anything, because any work begun on Saturday will never be finished.
The general belief amongst the farmers is that all early potatoes should be planted before St. Patricks Day, and the main crop before the first of May. Mangolds should always be down before the seventeenth of May. All young animals, such as calves and lambs, should be born before the "cuckoo speaks". Young animals born, or young birds hatched out in June are always said to be very weak; an expression which is very common in the district is "As weak as a June robin".
