Co. Tipperary - Traditional Ghost StoryMany years ago there was a well situated near the spot where the ruins of a starch-house are still to be seen, a short distance from Cloughjordan. It as called "Tierney's well" and the people of the neighbourhood used to go there for spring - water.
A river ran by near the well and a tree grew overhanging the river and it was said that some of the people on going to the well were often terrified by the appearance of a ghost at this spot.
It happened however that the ghost used to appear regularly to one woman but the people would not believe her when she told them of it, so a few of them planned to try her by dressing up in a sheet and standing in this spot when the woman would be coming to the well for water.
One evening one person did this and the woman on approaching was terrified and stood as if unable to move and cried "Lord save us! There's two of them here this time!"
The pretended ghost on hearing this got frightened, his hair stood up on his head and beads of perspiration(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
