Cill Murrily (Cill Muire) has ruins of an ancient Church and a disused burial ground. It has not been used for the past 100 years. It was built in the fifth of sixth century.

Lord Kitchener spend his early years in Ballygoughlin which place was purchased by his father Colonel Kitchener from the Knight of Glin. Local tradition has it that it was he who stopped burials in Kilmurrily.
