    More than ten years ago, an aged Fenian died in Dungourney wherein he had been born. Like many Fenians he was of settled political views and of quick intellect. For his part in the outbreak of '67 he was forced to America for some years. Like many Fenians he fell out not only with all proests but whi God Himself, owing to the denouncement of Fenians by them. He stopped, except occasionally, attending Mass. He belonged to a farming-family, but being reduced he turned to carpentry wherein his ready intellect was shown in excellent work, even though he never served an apprenticeship. He always accompanied the Dungourney hurling team for whom he made the hurleys. The team had not then reached the fame of Champions of Ireland which it did in the opening years of the 20th century. One one occasion, the team beaten that day, was returning home int wo-horse wagonettes, the Fenian, R.M. being in their midst. He said that they should have won the match.
