    It is the farmers wife that cuts the 'sgiollains. Occassionaly she gets a little assistance from her neighbour in cutting them.
    Before the potatoes are cut they must be left 'sprouting' for about three months previously.
    In order to yield a good crop there are occassionaly two eyes left in every 'sgiolain'. Then the waste potatoe is kept and given to the fowl, cattle and pigs. The potatoes are dug in the month of October.
