The young man tied his garter around the stalk, drew a circle around the plant, and started home for a spade and shovel. As he was departing the fairy called after him.
"Good-bye young man you are rich and brave and clever."
"Good-bye" the happy youth replied "and joy be yours forever." As he went along he thus communed with himself
"And by my word my own cailín
To her I'll prove no traitor
No other girl shall be my wife
Even if my luck were greater."
